About TempleBudBot

If you maintain a temple's website and you've seen this in your logs, this page explains what it is and how to control it.

TempleBud is building a directory of Hindu temples in the United States, so devotees can find a temple's hours, schedule and events in one place — with a link back to the source for every fact we show.

TempleBudBot is the automated program that reads temple websites to keep that information current.

How to recognise it

TempleBudBot/0.1 (+https://templebud.com/bot)

What it does

It reads publicly available pages on temple websites — the pages you'd find through any search engine — looking for service times, event listings and contact details. It records where each piece of information came from, so anything we publish links back to your page.

What it does not do

How often it visits

At most one request every two seconds, and no more than 50 pages per temple. Most temples see a short visit every week or two — more often only if something changed recently. If a page hasn't changed since our last visit, we skip it entirely.

How to slow it down or block it

Block it completely:

User-agent: TempleBudBot
Disallow: /

Allow it, but ask it to visit less often:

User-agent: TempleBudBot
Crawl-delay: 10

Keep specific sections private:

User-agent: TempleBudBot
Disallow: /members/
Disallow: /admin/

We honour these on the next visit.

We'd rather hear from you than have you wonder. If the crawler is causing any trouble at all, tell us using the form below and we'll stop.

If something is wrong

If TempleBud is showing incorrect information about your temple, or you'd like your temple removed from the directory entirely, use the form below. We'll correct or remove it — a temple is the authority on itself, and we treat it that way.

Claiming your temple's listing

Temple staff will be able to claim their listing and edit it directly — hours, schedules, events and contact details. Claimed temples take precedence over anything our crawler finds. That feature is in development; use the form to be notified when it opens.
